Railroads played a vital role in the growth of Randolph County. Today, a person can hop on the scenic railroad coming out of the Elkins Depot. Visit the Appalachian Forest Discovery Center located in Elkins to learn more about our National Heritage Area.
Randolph County holds the headquarters of the Monongahela National Forest. The Augusta Heritage Center celebrates the unique culture, arts and music of our region. Helvetia is a historically Swiss town isolated by mountains and forests, which has allowed it to continue strong Swiss traditions today, such as Fasnacht. The Beverly Heritage Center tells the story of the first campaign of the Civil War, Rich Mountain, early settlement in our region, and the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike.
